Welcome to this short course about open disclosure.

Open disclosure is the process of open communication with the patient and their family/carer following an adverse event.

This course has been designed to increase awareness of the principles of open disclosure.

The department of Health is committed to ensuring that if an incident occurs, patients receive an apology and explanation, and are treated with empathy, honesty and transparency in a timely manner.

The format of this course includes case studies and a quiz, so you can practice and test yourself on how much you’ve learnt.

It will take you about approximately 20 minutes to complete the course.
